Indian Americans in Silicon Valley organised a rally to show support for Hindus in Canada and Bangladesh who are facing violence in those countries.
Prominent community leaders spoke out against the attacks on the Hindu minority in front of a crowd of Indian Americans at Milpitas City Hall. They urged US leaders to denounce the human rights abuses and hold the governments of Bangladesh and Canada responsible for protecting their Hindu minority populations. The Bay Area has a population of over 200,000 Indian Americans. According to a media release, protest participants were disappointed by the inadequate response to the Khalistani attack on Hindu pilgrims at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton.
"Stop Islamist terrorism, protect Bangladeshi-Hindus" and "Stop Khalistani terrorism, protect Canadian-Hindus" were among the slogans chanted by rally participants. “We saw videos of the Khalistani terrorists invading the temple premises and beating up men, women and children. It was horrible to see Hindus who had gone to celebrate the Diwali festival being hounded by those goons”, the release said. “To make matters worse we saw that the police were already infiltrated with Khalistan supporters and were beating up Hindu devotees. Freedom of violence is being dressed up as freedom of expression in Canada. We have lost all faith in the Trudeau government in protecting the basic human rights of Canadian-Hindus,” it added.
Dr Ramesh Japra from Americans for Hindus condemned the attacks on Hindus by Khalistani groups in Canada and by radical groups in Bangladesh. “We are one world, one family, one future”, said he. Pushpita Prasad of the Coalition of Hindus in North America (CoHNA) expressed worry that Sikhs for Justice, an organisation that is illegal in India but free to operate in the US and Canada, was profiling and targeting her team in Canada.
