India has supplied a Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Dornier 228 surveillance aircraft to Guyana at a time of growing global uncertainty. According to Zee News, the move reflects a strategic decision by New Delhi to expand its influence beyond its traditional regions. With the US-Israel-Iran war affecting global energy markets, the timing of this delivery highlights India’s calculated approach in aligning defence cooperation with broader economic and geopolitical goals.

The aircraft was transported by an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster and is expected to enhance Guyana’s capacity to monitor its vast maritime and inland regions. Guyana’s global importance has increased significantly after the discovery of an estimated 11 billion barrels of oil in the Stabroek block.
