The Indian Army responded by firing along the Line of Control (LoC) after Pakistan broke the ceasefire. According to intelligence reports, Pakistan has now put its troops on high alert along the border.
The Indian Army claims that the ceasefire, which has been in effect for the past four years, was broken twice in one day. The sequence started with firing from the Pakistani side after a mine exploded during a Pakistan Army patrol in the KG area. The firing prompted a response from the Indian Army. After the incident, intelligence reports indicate that Pakistani troops have been told to stay alert, and more soldiers have been sent to the Line of Control (LoC).
The exchange of fire is happening at a time when efforts to cross the border have increased with the arrival of summer. The Indian Army has said that it has been able to stop these infiltration attempts successfully. The Indian Army is still engaged in a counterinsurgency war in Jammu and Kashmir called Operation All Out. Two terrorists were killed at the Line of Control and three within Indian territory between January and March 2025.
Four people were killed in the Jammu region's South Pir Panjal mountain. Security forces in Jammu & Kashmir killed 73 terrorists in 2024. Sixty percent of them were Pakistani, according to intelligence reports. Eighty percent of the region's active terrorists, according to current estimates, are from Pakistan. The number of local youths joining militant groups has gone down. In 2024, only four young people from Kashmir reportedly joined such groups, compared to 121 in 2022, 149 in 2021, and 191 in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army is said to be facing internal problems, including attacks by Baloch rebels. Even though there are tensions in areas like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the army has kept a large number of troops stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) since June 2024. A high alert was issued along the border by the Pakistan Army last year after a slew of terrorist assaults in Jammu were ascribed to Pakistani terrorists.
