India on Sunday strongly rejected Pakistan's allegations linking it to the recent terrorist attack on the Pakistan Rangers headquarters in Karachi. The Indian government called the claims baseless and asked Pakistan to focus on tackling terrorism within its own borders instead of blaming others without evidence.
The attack took place on Saturday night when terrorists targeted the provincial headquarters of the Pakistan Rangers in Karachi. According to Pakistani authorities, one terrorist drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the security complex. The blast triggered a fierce gun battle between the attackers and security personnel. Three members of the paramilitary force lost their lives during the operation, while four others suffered injuries. Security forces also killed three terrorists and captured a fourth attacker, who was identified as an Afghan national.
Soon after the attack, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a breakaway faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for carrying out the assault. Despite the group's claim, Pakistan's military and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accused an "Indian proxy" of being behind the attack. However, the Pakistani authorities did not present any evidence to support the allegation.
India firmly dismissed the accusations. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to the claims and rejected Pakistan's statement in clear terms. Addressing the allegations, he said, "We have seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi."
Jaiswal further said, "We categorically reject them. Instead of pointing fingers at others, Pakistan would do better to look inwards, take credible action against the terror infrastructure on its territory and rid itself of its proclivity to rely on terrorism as an instrument of state policy."
India maintained that Pakistan should concentrate on eliminating terrorist groups operating from its own territory rather than making unsupported accusations against other countries. The Indian government has consistently taken this position whenever similar allegations have surfaced in the past.
In a statement after the attack, Pakistan's military said the country would retaliate against those responsible for the assault on the Rangers headquarters. The military stressed that it would take action against the people and groups involved in planning and carrying out the attack.
Pakistan has conducted air strikes in Afghanistan several times in recent months. The Pakistani government has said those operations targeted militants who were responsible for attacks inside Pakistan. The latest Karachi attack is likely to add to concerns over the country's security situation and its ongoing fight against militant groups.
The attack has once again highlighted the security challenges Pakistan continues to face from extremist organisations. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, which claimed responsibility for the assault, split from the Pakistani Taliban several years ago and has carried out several deadly attacks in the past.
India has also pointed out that Pakistan has made similar allegations after previous terrorist incidents without presenting evidence. New Delhi has repeatedly denied any involvement in such attacks and has maintained that these accusations distract attention from Pakistan's internal security issues.
The exchange of statements follows a familiar pattern in relations between the two neighbouring countries. Pakistan has made it a habit of blaming India for several attacks over the years without presenting any evidence. India consistently rejected such claims and urged Islamabad to dismantle terrorist infrastructure operating within its borders.
The Karachi attack, in which three terrorists were killed, left three security personnel dead and left four others injured. Pakistani forces also captured one suspected attacker alive. As investigations continue, both countries remain firm in their positions, with India rejecting the allegations and Pakistan vowing to respond against those it holds responsible for the attack.
