India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) over what it called false and self-serving claims about Operation Sindoor. The Indian representative said Pakistan was trying to present a misleading narrative and justify terrorism, which India firmly rejected during the debate at the UN.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, accused the Pakistani envoy of presenting “a false and self-serving account of Operation Sindoor in May last year.” He said the facts were clear and India had acted responsibly in response to terrorism.
“The facts on this matter are clear. Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 innocent civilians in a brutal attack in Pahalagam in April 2025,” Harish said. He reminded the UNSC that the international body itself had called for holding the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of the attack accountable and bringing them to justice. “That is exactly what we did. India’s actions were measured, non-escalatory, and responsible and focused on dismantling the terrorist infrastructure and disabling terrorists,” he added.
Harish further said that Pakistan had continued to threaten India even after the incident. “Till May 9, Pakistan was threatening more attacks on India. But on May 10, the Pakistani military called our military directly and pleaded for a cessation to the fighting,” he said.
Rejecting Pakistan’s claim of victory in the conflict, the Indian official said that the impact of India’s operation was visible and documented. He stated that the damage caused to several Pakistani air bases, including images of destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars, was already in the public domain.
Speaking on the issue of terrorism, Harish strongly opposed Pakistan’s attempt to portray terrorism as a normal situation in the region. “We have heard talk from the representative of Pakistan about the new normal. Let me reiterate that terrorism can never be normalised as Pakistan wishes to do,” he said.
He also accused Pakistan of having a hostile agenda against India. “Pakistan, which is an elected member of the UN Security Council, has a single-point agenda to harm my country and my people,” Harish said.
He further criticised Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism. “It is not normal to tolerate Pakistan’s continued use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. This hallowed chamber cannot become a forum for Pakistan to legitimise terrorism. We will do whatever is required to protect and ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” he added.
On the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, Harish reaffirmed India’s position and rejected Pakistan’s comments on the matter. He said Pakistan had no right to comment on India’s internal issues. “The Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” he said.
Harish also addressed the issue of India’s decision regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. He said India had signed the treaty 65 years ago in good faith, but Pakistan had repeatedly violated its spirit through wars and terror attacks. “Throughout the six and a half decades, Pakistan has violated the spirit of the treaty by inflicting three wars and thousands of terror attacks on India. Thousands of Indian lives have been lost in Pakistan-sponsored terror attacks,” he said.
He explained that India had been forced to take a strong step. “India was compelled to finally announce that the treaty will be held in abeyance until Pakistan, a global epicentre of terror, credibly and irrevocably ends its support for cross-border and all other forms of terrorism,” Harish added.
In his statement, Harish also advised Pakistan to reflect on the rule of law. “It could start by asking itself how it has let its armed forces engineer a constitutional coup through the 27th Amendment and give lifetime immunity to its chief of defence forces,” he said.
India’s response at the UN reflected its firm stance against terrorism and its rejection of Pakistan’s narrative on Operation Sindoor. The Indian official made it clear that terrorism cannot be justified or normalised and that India would continue to protect its citizens and uphold its position on national security and territorial integrity.
