India and Pakistan held a flag meeting along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Friday. The meeting aimed to reduce tensions following recent incidents of cross-border firing and an IED attack, according to official sources.
According to the sources, both parties emphasised the need to preserve border peace during the brigade commander-level flag meeting which was held in the Chakkan-Da-Bagh crossing point area. However, the Indian Army made no public statement regarding the 75-minute meeting, which began at approximately 11 a.m. The Indian military delegation, according to the sources, strongly objected to recent instances of unprovoked cross-border fire, terrorist infiltration attempts, and the smuggling of weapons and drugs. Both sides agreed to uphold the ceasefire deal in the greater interest of border peace during the cordial meeting, according to the sources.
Since February 25, 2021, when the two neighbouring countries renewed a ceasefire agreement, violations along the Jammu and Kashmir border have been rare. However, on February 11, an improvised explosive device (IED) attack, suspected to be carried out by terrorists, took place in the Akhnoor sector of the Jammu region. In the attack, two Indian Army personnel, including a captain, lost their lives, while another soldier was injured. Two Army personnel were injured in separate incidents of small-arms firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts on February 10 and 14. Additionally, two more Army personnel were injured in separate land mine explosions in Poonch over the past week.
The damage on the Pakistani side due to India's retaliatory action is not yet clear, but officials stated that enemy forces also suffered "heavy casualties." According to sources, an explosion occurred at 9:20 am on the zero line in the Nakerkote area of the Digwar sector in Poonch. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The cause of the blast is still unknown.
