India overtakes China in QS Asia Rankings 2025

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has officially released the World University Rankings: Asia 2025, featuring a total of 22 universities from India in the Asia region. In the QS Asia Rankings 2025, IIT Delhi has surpassed IIT Bombay to become India's highest-ranked institution, marking a significant achievement for the country on the global academic stage.
The 16th edition of the QS World University Rankings- Asia features 984 universities across 25 different higher education systems. Notably, India stands out as the most represented nation, with 193 institutions on the list- outnumbering mainland China’s 135 and Japan’s 115.
Peking University maintains its position at the top of the QS Asia Rankings, followed by The University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore. Among Indian institutions, IIT Delhi stands out at the 44th spot, leading a strong showing for the country. IIT Bombay follows closely in 48th place, while IIT Madras ranks third in India at 56th.
This achievement highlights the increasing focus on research productivity and employability at India’s premier technical institutions, particularly the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

The National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Islamabad shares the 6th position in the South Asian category with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK).
The rankings are determined by universities' performance across various parameters, including International Faculty, PhD-qualified Staff, Faculty-Student Ratio, Inbound and Outbound Exchange, Academic Reputation, Citations per Paper, Papers per Faculty, International Research Network, International Students, and Employer Reputation.
