India, Iran review bilateral ties at 19th Foreign Office Consulations

On Friday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held discussions with Majid Takht Ravanchi, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, to review the Indo-Iran bilateral relationship. The meeting covered a range of topics, including the development of Chabahar Port, agricultural cooperation, trade and economic matters and the strengthening of cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Ravanchi also met Jaishankar, who posted on X, “Received Deputy FM @TakhtRavanchi of Iran this evening. Discussed our bilateral ties, progress in Chabahar port and regional developments. Confident that the Foreign Office Consultations will give momentum to our partnership.”
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, the 19th India-Iran Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) took place in New Delhi. The consultations were led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Majid Takht Ravanchi, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Discussions also covered current regional and global developments, (including the situation in Afghanistan, West Asia, and the South Caucasus),” said the statement. Foreign Secretary Misri highlighted the “significance of Chabahar Port in supporting Afghanistan’s reconstruction and economic development”.
The statement further noted that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in multilateral forums, including the UN, BRICS, and the SCO. During his meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, discussions were held on bilateral matters as well as current regional challenges. Both sides agreed to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges to further strengthen the cooperation between India and Iran.
