India-Iran-Armenia strengthen ties in second trilateral talks in Delhi

The second trilateral meeting between India, Iran and Armenia took place on Thursday. According to a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs, the trilateral meeting discussed various topics such as connectivity projects, participation in international platforms, and regional issues.
The trilateral consultations were led by JP Singh, Joint Secretary of the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran Division, representing India. Iran was represented by Hashem Ashja' Zadeh, Director General of the South Asia Division in its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Armenia's delegation was led by Anahit Karapetyan, Head of the Asia-Pacific Department in its Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "The 2nd India-Iran-Armenia Trilateral Consultations took place in New Delhi today. Discussions covered connectivity initiatives, multilateral engagement & regional developments. Emphasis was placed on enhancing trade, tourism, cultural exchanges & strengthening people-to-people ties," the MEA stated in a post in X.
The MEA mentioned that the discussions focused on boosting trade, tourism and cultural exchanges while fostering closer connections between people. The previous trilateral meeting among the three nations took place in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, in April 2023. The delegates underlined the value of developing close collaboration under the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) during the consultations, and they also emphasised Chabahar Port's contribution to this endeavour. Additionally, the Armenian side gave a briefing on "The Crossroads of Peace," their connectivity program.
"The delegations emphasised the need for fostering close cooperation under the INSTC and highlighted the role of Chabahar Port in this regard. The Armenian side briefed the participants on its connectivity initiative, "The Crossroads of Peace," the MEA stated in a statement. Along with reaffirming their commitment to ongoing trilateral collaboration, the three parties also decided that the next round of consultations would take place in Iran at a time and date that would work for all parties involved.
