External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took part in the India-France-UAE trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. The talks focused on emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, space, health sciences, energy and culture.

Jaishankar said in a social media post that the three countries discussed opportunities arising from their “shared interests and complementary capabilities”. He added that they agreed to meet again soon to take the discussions forward.

The meeting came as India, France and the United Arab Emirates continue to expand cooperation in technology, energy, connectivity and other strategic sectors. The three countries have already used trilateral platforms to strengthen engagement across several areas.

Artificial intelligence was among the key subjects discussed during the latest meeting. India has been pushing for greater international cooperation on AI governance. New Delhi has also stressed the need to ensure developing countries have inclusive access to emerging technologies. Its priorities for the 81st UNGA include promoting local AI innovation and supporting an inclusive framework for AI governance.

Space cooperation also featured prominently in the discussions. India and France have a longstanding space partnership through cooperation between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and France’s CNES. Their recent discussions have covered human spaceflight, advanced space technologies, Earth observation and stronger links between space industries.

The trilateral agenda also covered health sciences and energy. Culture was another area of discussion, highlighting the widening scope of cooperation between the three countries. Their engagement now extends beyond traditional diplomatic and strategic issues to technology, science, health and other emerging sectors.

India, France and the UAE also share interests across the wider Indo-Pacific and West Asian regions. Their economic and technological capabilities could support joint projects and partnerships in several areas. India and France have separately identified economic security, resilient supply chains and emerging technologies as areas for deeper cooperation.

Jaishankar's meeting with his French and UAE counterparts formed part of India's wider diplomatic engagements during the UNGA high-level week. New Delhi has been holding discussions with partner countries on multilateralism, technology, global security and economic cooperation during the ongoing session.
