India is close to securing a second and larger BrahMos supersonic cruise missile deal with the Philippines, estimated at USD 700 million to USD 800 million. The proposed agreement could include five additional systems and nearly 60 missiles as Manila looks to strengthen its coastal defence capabilities.
The negotiations come as India nears the completion of deliveries under its first BrahMos export contract with the Philippines. Signed in 2022 for USD 375 million, the deal marked India's entry into the international market for BrahMos missile exports.
The Philippines is expected to acquire around five additional BrahMos systems, comprising nearly 60 missiles, according to two Indian sources cited by Reuters. One source said Manila had renewed its interest in the missile system and considered India a reliable defence partner.
The proposed deal would be significantly larger than the country's initial USD 375 million order placed in 2022 for naval applications.
Philippine Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro said on Wednesday, while addressing the Delhi Defence Dialogue virtually, that Manila wanted to acquire more BrahMos units. He also said the country had submitted a list of requirements to Indian authorities to customise the missile system for its operational needs.
The proposed purchase is part of the Philippines' wider military modernisation programme, which aims to strengthen its coastal defence capabilities. Manila's security concerns have grown amid territorial disputes with China in the South China Sea. The two countries have faced repeated confrontations over competing maritime claims in the region.
Jointly developed by India and Russia, BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from land, naval vessels and aircraft. It is among the world's fastest cruise missiles and has attracted interest from several countries seeking to strengthen their military capabilities.
International interest in the missile increased after the four-day India-Pakistan conflict in 2025, when India used the BrahMos system in combat for the first time, according to Reuters.
India is also expanding its defence exports. In July 2026, New Delhi announced the supply of BrahMos missiles to Indonesia and signed a separate agreement with Vietnam. It is also holding discussions with the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, South Africa and Brazil over potential purchases.
