India, Australia and Canada have announced a new trilateral framework called the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation ACITI Partnership to boost cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. The announcement came after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg yesterday. In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi said that the partnership will help expand cooperation across key technology and innovation areas.
The joint initiative aims to strengthen collaboration in sectors such as clean energy, diversified and resilient supply chains, especially in critical minerals. The three countries will also look at ways to speed up the development and widespread use of artificial intelligence to improve the lives of their citizens. According to a joint statement by the three governments, the ACITI Partnership will make use of the technological and industrial strengths of each country while supporting shared goals for a secure and sustainable future. ACITI aims to push forward shared objectives on the path to net zero emissions, support the diversification of global supply chains, and promote a secure, sustainable, and resilient technological ecosystem.
Officials from the three nations will meet in the first quarter of 2026 to take the initiative further. The launch of ACITI also fits with India’s wider efforts to build global technology partnerships and strengthen supply chain security through multilateral frameworks at the G20.
