India is taking a significant step to address China's growing infrastructure development along its border by planning the construction of one of the largest hydropower dams on the Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh. With an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 lakh crore, the project will have a large water storage capacity of 9.2 billion cubic meters to meet the country's energy needs while safeguarding against potential water security challenges. Drilling machines have been sent to Parong, a small village in the Siang district, to carry out pre-feasibility testing. Reports indicate that the drilling will primarily focus on Parong, with other locations upstream, such as Dite Dime and Ugeng, not being considered at this stage.
