India and Tanzania hold joint defense cooperation committee meeting

According to reports, the second edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting between India and Tanzania took place in Arusha on June 28 and 29, 2023. The Indian delegation, led by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad, included senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, along with the presence of the High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, Binay S Pradhan.
During the meeting, the two sides engaged in extensive discussions on various collaborative opportunities aimed at enhancing security in the Indian Ocean Region. The Indian delegation emphasized India's growing prowess in defence manufacturing and its potential to export to friendly countries. They highlighted the importance of sharing expertise, resources, and technology to strengthen defence capabilities.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the agreement on a comprehensive five-year roadmap for defence cooperation between India and Tanzania. This roadmap encompasses a wide range of initiatives, including customized training, capacity building, maritime cooperation, infrastructure development, and collaboration in defence equipment and technology. It reflects the shared commitment of both nations to deepen defence ties and foster a mutually beneficial partnership.
Accompanying the Indian delegation were representatives from Defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), who actively engaged with Tanzanian military stakeholders on the sidelines of the JDCC meeting. These interactions aimed to explore potential areas of cooperation, foster greater understanding, and promote synergy between the defence industries of both countries.
As per reports India and Tanzania share close and warm bilateral relations, with a focus on robust capacity-building and development partnerships. The visit of the Indian delegation for the JDCC meeting is expected to further enhance defence cooperation between the two nations, paving the way for increased collaboration and joint initiatives in the realm of defence and security.
