External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabia’s counterpart Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and discussed the important aspects of enhancing bilateral coordination on various issues that are a common concern. They also focussed on ways to intensify the efforts to lay the foundation for international peace and security.
“They reviewed the historical and strong relations between the two countries for laying the foundations for international peace and security. The two sides discussed the various aspects of enhancing the bilateral coordination on many regional and international issues for the common concern and intensifying the efforts for the two-friendly countries that lay the foundation for international peace and security”, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry statement stated.
Before the commencement of “Operation Kaveri”, Jaishankar called his Saudi Arabian counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud and also appreciated the assessment of the Sudan situation. During the evacuation, 66 people are Indian nationals who were evacuated by Saudi Arabia from the violence-torn Sudan.
Before the evacuation process started, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Sudan. Prime Minister has assessed the most recent developments in Sudan and also received the first-hand report for the conditions on the ground with a specific focus on the safety of the over 3,000 Indian citizens that are presently located throughout the country.
Sudan is experiencing bloodshed as a result of the clashes between the army and the paramilitary forces. Committed to ensuring that no Indians are left behind in Sudan, India started Operation Kaveri on April 24th and deployed military planes and warships to the war-torn country.
On Tuesday, under Operation Kaveri, 328 Indians landed at the New Delhi International Airport from strife-torn Sudan. Almost 3,000 standard Indians have reached till now.
