India and Russia renewed their strategic partnership on Monday by signing a Protocol aimed at deepening their cooperation in sectors such as aluminium, fertilisers, railway transport and mining technology.
The agreement was signed during the 11th session of the India-Russia Working Group on Modernisation and Industrial Cooperation held in New Delhi, where both countries welcomed greater collaboration in aluminium, fertilisers and railway systems, along with joint efforts in skill development and technology exchange in the mining sector, exploration equipment and management of industrial and domestic waste.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the session took place under the framework of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.
The meeting was co-chaired by Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade from India, and Alexey Gruzdev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, from the Russian side.
As stated by the Commerce Ministry, about 80 delegates participated in the session, including senior government officials from both countries, subject experts and representatives from the industry.
The meeting reviewed the developments since the 10th session and served as a platform to expand cooperation in key industrial areas.
The discussions included reports from sub-groups working on modernisation, mining, fertilisers and railway projects, as well as new sectors of shared interest.
Main areas of collaboration included aerospace science and technology, such as building a new wind tunnel facility, developing small aircraft piston engines and working together on carbon fibre technology, additive manufacturing and 3D printing.
Both nations also discussed the possibility of working jointly in the extraction of rare earth and critical minerals, underground coal gasification and the development of advanced industrial infrastructure.
The session ended with the signing of the Protocol of the 11th Session by the two co-chairs, which “reaffirmed the strategic India-Russia partnership and shared commitment to deepen industrial and economic cooperation.”
