In preparation for the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum next week, Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko discussed the emergence of a multipolar world. They also shared perspectives on the current international situation, including developments in Europe.
The Russian side criticised the confrontational policies of the collective West towards Russia and other nations pursuing their national interests. They blamed the European Union and NATO for undermining global security, fostering the rise of neo-Nazism, and escalating the conflict around Ukraine.
They also discussed other regional and international issues, including cooperation within BRICS under the Russian Chairmanship and aspects of Eurasian security. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue the dialogue.
Earlier this week, President Vladimir Putin extended his greetings to the participants, organisers, and guests of the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg from June 5-8, 2024.
In his message, Putin noted that for over 25 years, the Forum has served as a platform for politicians, experts, business leaders, academics, and media professionals from around the world to engage in in-depth discussions on key economic development trends in Russia and globally.
Participants in plenary sessions, roundtables, and panel discussions are exchanging views on strategies to enhance international cooperation, foster scientific and technological advancement, cultivate human capital, and address challenges effectively.
The current meeting's theme is "The Foundations of a Multipolar World – The Formation of New Areas of Growth."
Describing the discussions as highly relevant and meaningful, the Russian leader expressed that an increasing portion of the international community supports the establishment of a fair and democratic system of international relations, rooted in principles of genuine equality, consideration for each other’s legitimate interests, and respect for the cultural and civilisational diversity of nations.
These principles form the basis of BRICS' activities, which Russia chairs this year. Notably, the history of this dynamic association, whose members collectively represent over a third of the global economy, commenced at the 10th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2006.
President Putin emphasised that Russia remains open to constructive dialogue and collaboration with partners, ready to jointly tackle the economic, social, scientific, and technological challenges of the present era. He expressed confidence that the Forum would catalyse new and promising initiatives and projects, fostering mutually beneficial cooperation between nations and peoples.
