Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis have committed to enhancing the India-Greece Strategic Partnership following a phone call between the two leaders. During their conversation, they talked about improving cooperation in key areas like trade, defence, shipping, and connectivity.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday, the two leaders addressed progress in several important areas of cooperation, including projects for improved maritime connectivity, and expressed gratitude for the momentum in bilateral ties following recent high-level exchanges. After the June Lok Sabha elections, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his reelection and expressed hope for the future of India-Greece ties.
“Yesterday, had a productive conversation with PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, reaffirming our shared commitment to strengthening the India-Greece Strategic Partnership. Together, we aim to deepen our collaboration across trade, Defence, shipping, and connectivity. Greece is a valued partner for India within the EU as well,” wrote PM Modi on X after a discussion with Greece's counterpart.
During the conversation, both leaders discussed progress in various areas of cooperation, such as trade, defence, shipping, and connectivity. This was part of the follow-up to PM Mitsotakis' visit to India earlier this year. The PMO statement also mentioned that both leaders reviewed updates on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and shared their thoughts on regional and global issues, especially concerning developments in West Asia.
The Greek prime minister visited India earlier this year and attended the Raisina Dialogue, India's premier forum on geopolitics and geoeconomics, in New Delhi as the country's chief guest. The two leaders emphasised the value of connection during this visit, including marine connectivity and collaboration through corridors, especially the IMEC. The IMEC talks examined all potential ways to improve connectivity between Greece and India and were held within the broader framework of improved connectivity between the two countries.
