India and France deepen space collaboration with MoU between ISpA and GIFAS

The Indian Space Association (ISpA) and France's GIFAS marked a notable milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 2nd annual Indian Space Conclave.
This partnership intends to raise awareness about business prospects in the space industry in France and India. The Indian Space Association organized the first day, which concentrated on collaboration in the space sector between India and France. It drew attendance from representatives of space industry leaders, startups, and government officials from both countries.
This collaboration has a core focus on advancing sustainable growth, driving innovation, and promoting the integration of cutting-edge technologies within the space industries of both countries. The MoU serves as a pivotal tool in fortifying the existing Indo-French relationship within the space sector and broadening the memberships of both organizations by fostering international connections.
Furthermore, this partnership will play a pivotal role in facilitating academic and educational program exchanges between the two organizations. It encompasses comprehensive training initiatives at all educational levels, especially critical as global student interest in the space sector continues to burgeon.
The Indian Space Conclave features a three-day exhibition with 24 exhibitors hailing from prominent space startups and academic institutions. They are showcasing their products and offerings. Inaugurating the exhibition were Thierry Mathou, Ambassador-Designate of France in India, and Governor Shekhar Dutt, SM (Retd), Former Defence Secretary and Governor of Chhattisgarh.
In a video message, S Somanath, Secretary of the Department of Space and Chairman of ISRO, lauded ISpA for nurturing space startups and integrating private industries into the space sector, which he views as a significant milestone. He stressed the transformative potential of the space sector in areas such as sustainable development, disaster management, business, and geospatial policy. Somanath also mentioned the impending release of FDI rules aimed at encouraging foreign investments in the space sector.
In his inaugural address, Lt Gen AK Bhatt (Retd.), Director General of the Indian Space Association discussed the expanding role of the Indian private space industry and the prospects for collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive innovation and progress. He underscored the importance of the alliance with France in advancing space exploration.
Astronaut Thomas Pesquet from the European Space Agency (ESA) underscored the significance of space exploration in addressing climate change and emphasized the potential of collaboration between private industries and the space sector. He envisioned a future where private industries seamlessly integrate into every aspect of space exploration.
