On Tuesday, Wang Lei, the charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in India, voiced China's eagerness to work with India “in the spirit of looking to the future and pursuing win-win cooperation to invest their resources into development and revitalisation, placing the border issue in an appropriate position within bilateral ties.”
A reception was held in New Delhi to celebrate the Chinese New Year, during which the host emphasised the importance of India and China working together to maintain peace and tranquillity in their border areas. He noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Reflecting on their shared history, he recalled India was among the first countries to recognise New China and establish formal diplomatic ties.
Wang stated, “As two major developing countries and important members of the Global South, China-India relations maintain healthy development, aligning with the interests of over 2.8 billion people in both countries.” He further expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with India to facilitate win-win cooperation and ensure the border issue remains a priority in their bilateral relationship.
Additionally, he referenced the October meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders agreed to strengthen strategic communication and uphold peace along the border.
During his remarks on the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives for the China-India Boundary Question held in December, Wang highlighted that both nations had arrived at a six-point consensus on addressing the border issue.
On the topic of trade, Wang shared that the trade volume between India and China amounted to $126.6 billion in the first 11 months of 2024, reflecting a 1.9 per cent increase compared to the previous year. He underscored the significant growth in people-to-people exchanges, noting that the Chinese Embassy issued 280,000 visas to Indian citizens in the past year.
Wang emphasised that 2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and outlined its strategic initiatives for pursuing high-quality development. Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, added to the occasion by sharing photos from the event, taken from representatives from the Indian government, political parties, think tanks, media, and students.
