The Bharatiya Janata Party announced new state presidents for seven states and two union territories on Monday as part of the second phase of its ongoing organisational restructuring.
The party has selected new presidents for Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Puducherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
These appointments are part of the BJP’s Sangathan Parv, which is its internal organisational drive. The second phase has brought in new leadership in a total of seven states and two union territories, with sources in the party suggesting that new appointments for West Bengal and Odisha will also be announced soon.
With these changes, the BJP has now completed internal organisational elections in 28 states and union territories, which is nine more than the minimum of 19 required to start the process of electing the party’s national president.
Party insiders have said that the election for the BJP’s national president will be held only after internal elections are finished in important states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Delhi, and Haryana.
The newly appointed BJP state presidents are as follows-
Madhya Pradesh – Hemant Khandelwal
Maharashtra – Ravindra Chavan
Telangana – N Ramchander Rao
Andhra Pradesh – PVN Madhav
Uttarakhand – Mahendra Bhatt
Himachal Pradesh – Rajeev Bindal
Puducherry – VP Ramalingam
Mizoram – Beichhua
Andaman and Nicobar Islands – Anil Tiwari
With this round of appointments, the BJP is working to build a solid base for its central leadership change and is preparing its organisation for upcoming state and national elections.
Earlier in the day, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya submitted his nomination for the role of West Bengal BJP President.
While speaking to ANI, Bhattacharya said the party leadership asked him to file the nomination and he complied. "I have nothing to say right now. The process is still underway. It has not concluded yet. Party leadership told me to file a nomination, and I did that. Result is yet to come," he said.
He was accompanied by the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari and the current BJP West Bengal Chief and Union Minister, Sukanta Majumdar.
