Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), the party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has invited India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, to participate in and address ongoing protests in Pakistan. According to reports, PTI has requested India's assistance in putting an end to the protests and chaos currently happening in the country.
According to sources, India has been invited to participate in the PTI protest aimed at "strengthening Pakistan's state" by Barrister Ali Saif, the Provincial Information Advisor for Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Province in Pakistan.
The PTI announced that it will extend an invitation to the Indian External Affairs Minister to address the country and party members during the PTI demonstration. “PTI will invite Jaishankar, Indian External Affairs Minister, to come and join PTI’s protest and speak to our people and see that Pakistan is a strong democracy where everyone has a right to protest,” said Ali Saif. He said that world leaders are visiting Pakistan during an appearance on GEO News. “we want to show them our democracy,” he added.
However, EAM Dr S. Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Pakistan later this month for the "Heads of Government" summit organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). As India's foreign minister, Jaishankar would be making his first trip to Pakistan. His visit would mark the first official visit to Islamabad by an Indian Foreign Minister in nine years. “EAM Jaishankar will lead a delegation to Pakistan for the SCO summit which will be held in Islamabad on 15th and 16th October…,” said MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal at a press conference in New Delhi.
Relations between the two South Asian countries have deteriorated after the 2016 terror attack in Uri. India has consistently stated that until Pakistan ceases supporting and encouraging terrorism, no relationship with that country is possible. Regarding a meeting with Pakistan on a bilateral basis, the MEA stated, “The EAM is leading a delegation. What will be his plans like closer to the meeting, we will share.”
The Ministry of External Affairs has slammed Pakistan for welcoming the controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. “We are not surprised that a fugitive from Indian justice has received a high-level welcome in Pakistan. It is disappointing and condemnable, but as I said not surprising,” Jaiswal said.
MEA accepted for the first time that India had brought up this matter with the Malaysian PM during his visit.
