A demolition drive to remove an illegal dargah in Mumbai's Mahim began, a day after Raj Thackeray revealed a video of the dargah during his rally in Shivaji Park. At his Gudi Padwa address on Wednesday, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena head presented a clip and claimed that an 'illegal dargah' had been found off Mumbai's Mahim shore.
Based on the footage, the city collector formed a six-person team to check the area and remove the encroachment.
“Whose dargah is it? Is it of a fish? It was not there a couple of years ago. Raj Thackeray said. MNS later shared the video on Twitter, claiming that a "new Haji Ali" is being prepared in the middle of the sea in broad daylight while the police and municipality are unaware.
The video depicts a little island-like patch of land along the coast with a few poles. The video also shows a couple visiting the stretch and wading into the seawater to pay their respects. That was a 'dargah,' according to Raj Thackeray.
“I want to ask the Constitution-abiding Muslims of the country: Do you condone this? I don’t want to flex, but when needed I will have to do it,” Raj Thackeray went on to say that the 'illegal dargah' is close to Makhdum Baba's dargah in Mahim.
He has also scheduled a meeting of MNS employees at his home on Wednesday to discuss the matter. Raj Thackeray further stated that if the state government does not take action, he will continue his campaign to remove loudspeakers from mosques.
The MNS leader sought the dismissal of over 17,000 complaints filed against his party members last year when they protested the removal of loudspeakers from mosques.
