Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation today at 8 PM about Operation Sindoor and India’s ongoing fight against terrorism. He started the speech by thanking the forces, intelligence agencies, and scientists for their contributions to the success of the operation.
Modi highlighted the strength and patience displayed by India in recent days. He dedicated the ‘Operation Sindoor’ to the mothers, sisters, and daughters of the nation.
The Prime Minister also addressed the Pahalgam attack, where 26 tourists were tragically killed. He shared that the attack “personally hurt” him, and said that India had given its forces a “free hand” in responding to the Pahalgam attack. Modi added that Operation Sindoor is a commitment to justice and security, emphasising that the Indian Army targeted only terrorist training centres and their infrastructure.
He also spoke about the Bahawalpur and Muridke terrorist spots, describing them as “global terrorist universities.” Modi pointed out that Pakistan had allowed terrorists to operate openly, planning attacks against India. He said, “When India performed ‘Operation Sindoor’, Pakistan did not support India with investigations into terrorism but instead started attacking us.”
He said that Pakistan attacked India’s schools and gurudwaras. The world saw Pakistan’s drones and missiles targeting India, but India destroyed them in the air, Modi added.
“On May 10, Pakistan’s DGMO contacted India. By then, India had already dismantled significant terrorist infrastructure,” he said. Modi made it clear that while India had paused its operations, it had not stopped its investigation into terrorism. He also said that the Air Force, Army, Navy, and BSF remain on high alert. He noted that Operation Sindoor is now a broader strategy against terrorism. He also said, “We won’t tolerate nuclear blackmail.”
Modi also criticised Pakistan for its involvement in state-sponsored terrorism, claiming Pakistani Army officers’ presence at the funeral of terrorists as proof. He reminded the nation that India has defeated Pakistan every time in war, and called for a greater emphasis on Made in India defence equipment.
“Unity is our strength,” he said, emphasizing that staying together is India’s greatest strength right now. Modi also made it clear that terrorism and trade cannot go hand in hand. “Blood and water cannot flow together,” he added.
The only path to peace for Pakistan is to dismantle its terrorist infrastructure, he said. On the issue of talks with Pakistan, Modi said that if any talks were to happen, they would take place only over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).
On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Modi spoke about the peaceful path shown by Lord Buddha. He said, “For every Indian to live in peace, India must be strong. And it’s important to use that strength when needed.”
“In the last few days, India has shown what it's capable of,” Modi said. He ended his speech by saluting to the armed forces for their dedication.
