Hindus for America First, a newly established grassroots organisation, has revealed its decision to endorse Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The group is set to initiate a campaign targeting Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in crucial battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina.
On Thursday, Utsav Sanduja, chairman and founder of Hindus for America First, announced the organisation’s endorsement of Donald Trump. Sanduja argued that Vice President Kamala Harris would pose a significant threat to Indo-US relations, describing her potential impact as “very destabilising.”
“The concern is that if Kamala becomes the president of the United States, then she might put in some liberal wolves on the bench who may actually reverse the Supreme Court on this (and) that impacting the Asian-American voters,” he said.
Sanduja criticised the Biden-Harris administration for failing to secure the border, claiming that Vice President Harris, as the second-in-command after President Joe Biden, has done little to address the influx of illegal immigrants into the U.S.
“As a consequence of all these illegal immigrants, we’ve seen record crime, record drug smuggling… and it ends up affecting minority communities, in particular many of the Asian-American business owners,” he said.
In contrast, Sanduja commended Trump's efforts to reform the immigration system towards a more merit-based approach. He also praised the former president's initiatives to strengthen defence and technology cooperation with India.
Sanduja characterised Trump as “very pro-India,” highlighting his successful efforts to build a strong relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted Trump’s collaboration on numerous defence projects, which he believes would enhance India’s capacity to counter China.
Sanduja pointed out that, unlike Harris, who has made numerous “disparaging remarks” about the Indian government and its people, Trump refrained from interfering in India’s internal affairs.
“Kamala Harris would be very destabilising for Indo-US relations,” he claimed.
He announced that Hindus for America First is mobilising efforts among Hindus in key battleground states, including Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada, to oppose Harris. He also noted that the global Hindu community is deeply concerned about the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
“We would request all political entities concerned to raise this issue,” he said, further talking about the suffering of Bangladeshi Hindus.
“I give President Trump a lot of credit. Under his leadership, the State Department acknowledged the persecution of Hindus in various parts of the subcontinent, like in Afghanistan…Pakistan, it was President Trump that took the leadership in acknowledging Hindu genocide,” he said.
