Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh stated on Friday that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is to blame for the strained relationship between India and Canada, accusing him of supporting Khalistani propaganda.
The BJP leader told ANI in a conversation, "Canadian PM Trudeau has ruined the relationship between India and Canada. Trudeau is interested in only one thing and that is getting the Sikh votes for his own election. He doesn't care what happens, he has done this earlier also. He is promoting Khalistanis at the moment."
"This is something that is not acceptable. When I was in government, the Canadian defence minister was in India visit, I refused to meet him," Captain Singh said on the India-Canada diplomatic row. In the Canadian Parliament last year, Trudeau claimed to have "credible allegations" of Indian government operatives being involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which caused a rift in relations between India and Canada.
India has refuted all of the accusations, describing them as "absurd" and "motivated." It has also charged that Canada is allowing anti-Indian and extremist elements to flourish in their nation. Canada's designation of India's High Commissioner and other diplomats as "persons of interest" in the Nijjar death probe marked the beginning of the most current diplomatic spat between the two nations.
According to CBC News, Liberal MPs gathered on Parliament Hill and demanded that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quit as Liberal leader. Dissident MPs voiced their complaints to Trudeau at the private meeting, indicating the party's mounting dissatisfaction.
Additionally, during the meeting, dissident Liberal MPs produced a document that gave Trudeau until October 28 to make a decision about his resignation. However, it made no mention of the repercussions should he miss that date.
