Perhaps there was no other movie whose teaser and trailer in recent times created so much discussion in media channels and political parties.
After watching a special screening of The Kerala Story on Monday evening in Hyderabad, I can vouch that The Kerala Story is a movie that takes you by the scruff of your neck and asks you to listen to the heart-wrenching story of a young girl who was lured into a love trap and landed up in Afghanistan and her eventual escape.
The Kerala Story is directed by Sudipto Sen and written by Suryapal Singh, Sudipto Sen and Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The movie which will hit the screens on 5th May is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and is available for viewing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
The spine-chilling story of Shalini Unnikrishnan is so innocently told from the moment she steps into a nursing college in Kasargod in Kerala and eventually lands up in ISIS-controlled Afghanistan. Here, on day one, she and her two friends are marked out by the Jihadi mafia for their devious plans. Director Sudipto Sen brilliantly does a back and forth melange of how Shalini tells her story to her Iranian interrogators.
The movie exposes how she was brainwashed into converting to Islam through a swift process where predators are waiting to enact a fake romantic interlude, impregnated and finally taken out of India to become a potential su1cide B0mber or a sex slave. All for ensuring that Jannat awaits her, unlike the hell for Kafirs.
I don't want to spoil your experience of watching this movie with spoilers. But, everyone in Kerala knows what happened and how the Islamic - Communist - Congress party tried to cover up and worse, denied that anything of this type ever happened.
Adah Sharma literally lives this role of Shalini Unnikrishnan / Fatima, so does her roommates in the hostel - Yogita Bihani as Nimah, Sonia Balani as Asifa Siddhi Idnani as Geetanjali have a wide canvas to essay their roles.
The enchanting greenery and backwaters of Kerala are contrasted against the brooding drabness and dry Afghanistan - all of which shows how God's Own Country is now ruled by Devils.
Finally, this movie is an eye-opener for those outside Kerala, for within Kerala, Hindus are now akin to Jews during the Second World War. It's also a warning to parents to educate their children about their religion (read that Hinduism) and not let their daughters wander away and be lost forever. There is a Shalini Unnikrishnan in each of our homes. This is her story.
