In the heat of the Haryana assembly elections campaign, controversy came knocking on the doorstep of Congress MLA Neeraj Sharma from Faridabad on Wednesday. Sharma, contesting the elections from NIT constituency in Faridabad, declared that if Congress wins, voters would be given jobs as a reward for voting in large numbers. The public and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) both harshly criticised his comments after they were captured on camera and extensively shared on social media.
Addressing the crowd, Sharma said, "2 lakh government jobs will be provided in Haryana, as promised by Bhupinder Hooda." A 2,000 job quota will be awarded to our region. Job distribution will be based on the number of votes cast in each village. "One job will be guaranteed for every 50 votes," he continued. Our leadership has made this decision, not just me.
Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini shared the viral video on his 'X' handle, raising doubts about the Congress's motives. It demonstrated the "true character and mindset" of the party, he said, adding, "The first promise of Congress's manifesto is to distribute jobs and then hide expenses."
The promises were also criticised by Mohan Lal Badoli, the president of the Haryana BJP, who mockingly referred to them as "Hooda's system for Haryana youth." There is a fierce battle brewing between the Congress and the BJP ahead of the elections on October 5. Encouraged by the INDIA bloc's recent performance in the Lok Sabha, Congress is still hopeful of winning a strong mandate following a ten-year hiatus.
Sharma clarified his remarks in response to criticism, alleging that they had been altered by the BJP IT cell. He restated that youth employment in Haryana would be given priority by the Congress-led government.
