Shortly after the Uttar Pradesh government issued a directive on Friday requiring all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners, the Haridwar Police followed suit with a similar order.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Haridwar, it is now compulsory for all shopkeepers to prominently display their names outside their shops during the Kanwar Yatra.
The order issued by SSP Pramod Singh Dobal mandates that all hotel and dhaba owners display their names, QR codes, and mobile numbers prominently outside their establishments. It warns of strict action against those who fail to comply, including the removal of their outlets.
On 19th July, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to prominently display the names of their owners. This decision was made shortly after the Uttar Pradesh Police in Muzaffarnagar reversed its previous directive, which had required eateries to display owners' names but then made it "voluntary" following criticism from opposition parties.
According to the directive, all food shops and carts must prominently display the name of the owner on their signage. The Chief Minister emphasised that this measure was implemented to uphold the sanctity of the Kanwar Yatra pilgrims.
Now, every establishment serving food, whether it's a formal restaurant, a roadside dhaba, or even a mobile food cart, is required to visibly show the owner's name.
This directive aims to enhance transparency and accountability in food services along the Kanwar Yatra route, ensuring that owners are easily identifiable to maintain standards and safety for pilgrims participating in the religious journey.
