Saeed Atallah Ali, a member of Hamas' military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. The strike also claimed the lives of three of his family members, according to a report from Reuters.
"The Hamas movement mourns the leader of the al-Qassam Brigades, Saeed Atallah Ali, and three of his family members as a result of the bombing of his home in the Palestinian refugee camp in Dawi in Tripoli in northern Lebanon," as reported by Hamas media.
His killing brings to Israel's total the number of high-ranking militant leaders Israel has killed in recent weeks, sparking fears that the Middle East's widening crisis may turn into a full-scale war. Almost 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes to date, prompting the Jewish nation to launch ongoing strikes in Lebanon.
Additionally, in an effort to destroy the terrorist organisation, Israel started making ground incursions into Lebanon with the goal of hitting Hezbollah settlements.
Israel killed Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah who had been in charge of the militant organisation for the previous thirty-two years, during its airstrikes on the organization's Beirut headquarters. There have also been reports that Israel struck an alleged underground bunker in Lebanon where Hashem Safieddine, who is believed to be Nasrallah's successor, was meeting with other leaders of Hezbollah.
Israel declared in July of this year that it had killed Mohammed Deif, who was allegedly the mastermind of the October 7 attacks on Israel by Hamas. Deif was killed on July 13 when, following an intelligence assessment, fighter jets attacked in the vicinity of Khan Yunis in Gaza. Seven Israeli assassination attempts had failed to bring the elusive Deif to justice.
Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was assassinated in Tehran, the Iranian capital. He was in the nation's capital for Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian's inauguration. He was killed, along with a bodyguard, when a missile struck the guest house they were staying in. Although Israel hasn't taken credit for the attack.
Consequently, Iran fired almost 200 missiles into Israel after Hassan Nasrallah was killed. During his first Friday sermon in almost five years, Iran's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that the Jewish state would not "last long" and described the attack on Israel as "legal and legitimate".
