Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Friday said it handed over the advanced light helicopter Mark-3 (ALH-Mk3) to the government of Mauritius ahead of the scheduled time. 

 As HAL is all set to exhibit 15 domestically-made helicopters at the 14th edition of the biennial aviation exhibition called Aero India 2023, it delivered the latest version of HAL Dhruv to Mauritius on February 10.

HAL director-operations EP Jayadeva said, "HAL has handed over the helicopter way ahead of schedule. This order is in line with the Centre’s vision to boost defence exports to friendly foreign countries and the handing over of the helicopter has further bolstered ties between both countries."

The PSU said that the ALH-Mk3 helicopter, with its state-of-the-art equipment, will further enhance the operational requirements of the Mauritius Police Force.

AK Dip, commissioner of police, MPF, was quoted as having said, "A new helicopter into the stables of MPF will enhance the aerial capabilities. The helicopter will contribute immensely in ensuring territorial integrity and enhancing the speed and effectiveness of police intervention during critical incidents and disasters."

HAL helicopter complex CEO S Anbuvelan said India and Mauritius share a strong business relationship spanning over three decades, with HAL-manufactured helicopter already being operated in Mauritius.

"HAL would provide all the necessary technical, logistic, and maintenance support for ALH helicopter in Mauritius," the PSU said in a statement.

Meanwhile, this five-day event in India will focus on displaying indigenous equipment/technologies and forging partnerships with foreign companies.

HAL had signed a contract with the government of Mauritius in January 2022 for export of one ALH-Mk3, a multi-role, multi-mission versatile helicopter in the 5.5 tonne category, to the MPF. 

"It has proven its mettle in various utility roles, including numerous lifesaving missions during natural calamities in India and abroad. More than 335 ALH has been produced till date," HAL added.
