Four individuals were arrested by Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday on suspicion of having connections to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a banned terrorist organisation, as reported by news agency PTI.
"Four individuals associated with the outlawed terror group have been detained," the anti-terror body stated in a release.
The ATS added that more details on the operation would be shared later in the day.
In a separate development last year, the Delhi Police, in coordination with security agencies from Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, dismantled a terror outfit influenced by al-Qaeda.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of planning large-scale terrorist attacks.
As per a statement by the Delhi Police, "The module, in accordance with the then prevailing state of operations, was being operated by one Dr Ishtiyaq of Ranchi (Jharkhand), and it was planning to announce 'khilafat' and carry out severe terrorist activities within the nation."
Based on vital intelligence inputs, the joint multi-state operation exposed the structure and objectives of the group in August last year.
Reports stated that the suspects had been trained in the use of weapons and were indoctrinated with radical ideology at secret locations.
During the operation, six suspects were apprehended in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, where they were undergoing weapons training.
Another eight individuals were detained from different locations in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh for further questioning.
The police recovered arms, ammunition, and radical literature related to the group's planned actions.
Officials confirmed that the arrested individuals had received training and were at advanced stages of planning attacks.
