The Gujarat Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has terminated agreements with 27 hotels in the state as part of an effort to combat deceptive commercial establishment names. Transport Corporation buses will no longer stop at these hotels as a result of this decision. Interestingly, these hotels have permits under Hindu names. However, their identities have been turned out to be Muslims.
Hotels in Ahmedabad, Nadiad, Palanpur, Godhra, Mehsana, Bhuj, Bharuch, Vadodara, Rajkot, and others are on the list. Hindu deity-inspired hotel names are also included in the list of 27 hotels. In fact, some hotels that are owned by Muslims have Hindu names for their proprietors. For instance, the list includes Hotel Shivshakti, which is located on the Bhuj-Dhragandhra-Ahmedabad route. The hotel is named after a Hindu deity, and permission was granted under the name of a Hindu. However, in reality, the owners and managers of the hotel are Muslims. Similarly, Hotel Tulsi, located on the Surat-Ahmedabad route, is also owned by Muslims.
According to journalist Nirnay Kapoor, GSRTC buses will no longer stop at these hotels. The permit for Hotel Maruti, located on the Surat-Ahmedabad route in the Bharuch division, has been cancelled. Additionally, the permissions for GSRTC buses to stop at Hotel Vrindavad on the Vadodara-Godhra-Modasa route and Hotel Gurukripan on the Ahmedabad-Mehsana-Palanpur route have also been cancelled. Hotel Sarvodaya on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot route, Hotel Shreeji on the Ahmedabad-Balasinor-Godhra-Jhalod route, Hotel Sahyog on the Ahmedabad-Surat road, Hotel Galaxy, Hotel Ronak, Hotel Sarvodaya on the Ahmedabad-Dhragandha-Bhuj route, Hotel Satimata on the Surat-Ahmedbad road, and so on are also included in the list.
Notably, GSRTC operates state transport buses across the state, and long-distance buses stop at a few motels along the highway. Every year, the corporation invites tenders for this purpose and the hotels that win the bids sign contracts. People had observed that, despite being owned by Muslims, several of the hotels that had won bids and entered into agreements with GSRTC were using Hindu names. Social media has then urged government agencies to look into these hotels and take the necessary action. In response, the GSRTC acted and revoked the permits for 27 of these hotels.
