A private glider aircraft crashed into a residential house in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad on Thursday, leaving the pilot and a 14-year-old boy seriously injured. The two-seater glider reportedly fell on the house due to a technical failure.
The pilot and the passenger on board have been admitted to Asarfi Hospital. Their condition is said to be critical.
“The joyride glider fell on a building just after taking off from the Barwadda airstrip at around 4.50 pm,” Barbadda police station officer-in-charge Ashish Kumar Yadav said, PTI reported. The joyride glider fell on the house of one Nilesh Kumar near Birsa Munda Park in Dhanbdad soon after taking off,
However, no one from the building sustained any injury, according to police. Kumar said his two children were playing there but had a close shave.
The injured passenger, identified as Kush Singh, is from Patna and had come to his maternal uncle Pawan Singh's house in Dhanbad. The boy had gone for a joyride in the glider run by a private agency from the Barwadda airstrip. Only two persons – a pilot and a passenger can sit on a joyride glider.
Multiple photos of the crash site circulating online show the glider’s cockpit completely smashed into a concrete pillar. What’s more terrifying is that the pilot seat of the aircraft appears to be completely destroyed as it remained suspended in the residential building. The news portal identified the owner of the house to be Nilesh Kumar, who confirmed that no one from his family was injured during the accident.
At the time of the crash, Kumar’s two children were reportedly playing inside the house. The person injured during the accident is said to be a resident of Patna who had come to visit his relatives in Dhanbad. The passenger decided to take a glider ride, run by a private agency, to watch the entire city as a recreational activity. The glider rides have been shut down temporarily after the crash.
