Gautam Gambhir, who is now the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team and was earlier a BJP Member of Parliament, has received a death threat from the group ‘ISIS Kashmir’ after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
India Today reported that the threat was sent via email and only included the three horrifying words, "I kill you." News agency ANI reported that Gambhir’s office confirmed he reached out to the Delhi Police and formally lodged a complaint to ensure the safety of his family. “Former BJP MP and current head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, received a death threat from 'ISIS Kashmir'. On Wednesday, he approached the Delhi Police, filing a formal complaint for an FIR and seeking measures to safeguard his family's security,” his office said.
This isn't the first time Gambhir has received a threat via email. Back in November 2021, when he was an MP, he had also received a similar threat. Gambhir was one of the first sportsmen to speak out after the Pahalgam terror assault, which left several people dead. In a post on X, he wrote, “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
Gambhir recently returned from a family holiday in France and has been keeping a low profile since India’s Champions Trophy victory in March. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in full swing, coaches for the national team usually take a break during this period. Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of Team India in July last year, succeeding Rahul Dravid, who led the team to a World Cup win.
