The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on the last day of his visit to Israel, got an opportunity to witness Israel's futuristic, water purification vehicle, Gal-Mobile, demonstrated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Gal-Mobile is an integrated, water purification vehicle that purifies and desalinates sea water on the go, turning it into high-quality drinking water. The revolutionary technology, a brainchild of GAL Water Technologies, promises to solve water crisis situations during emergencies.
The unique vehicle, which carries a mobile desalination plant, can be extremely useful in natural disaster scenarios like floods and earthquakes, or in military use, especially where drinking water is scarce.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a first-hand experience of the mobile desalination plant on his way from Haifa to Tel Aviv with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu. PM Modi, after being an eyewitness to the innovative concept, was simply amazed.
Under the Hood of Gal-Mobile - How Does Gal-Mobile Work?
Gal-Mobile is a patented project of GAL Water Technologies - makers of integrated water purification system for over 20 years. The state-of-the-art vehicle, the first of its kind in the world, can desalinate 20,000 liters of seawater and purify 80,000 liters of dirty water per day while meeting the World Health Organisation standards.
The independent, integrated desalination system can cater to remote locations during emergencies and natural catastrophes, a company official stated. According to him, the mobile water purification unit can deliver purified drinking water from any source, anytime, anywhere. This superior technology is a source of envy for many nations, he added.
PM Modi had a taste of the advanced water technology at Gal-Mobile's water desalination unit on Olga Beach in Haifa. “I am very very thankful to Bibi (Netanyahu, for showing this) because the vehicle which I saw today can be very useful particularly during natural calamity…this is a unique product,” PM Modi said.
India's Relationship with Israel in Terms of Water
India is looking to collaborate with Israel on issues relating to water management, as Israel is globally renowned for its leading-edge expertise in this domain. India believes, this cutting-edge technology can be exceedingly resourceful in challenging environments like floods and water shortages that India suffers from almost every year.
The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and India’s Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, in Jerusalem, on July 5, inked a memorandum of understanding with Israel’s Ministry of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources, expressing India's interest in water utility reforms and water conservation.

Gal-Mobile's Water Solutions for India
Since groundwater cannot be considered as a sustainable water source, India is in a dire need to find feasible alternatives so that clean drinking water can be supplied to its exponentially growing population, estimated to touch 1.7 billion by 2050.
With a groundbreaking 'Gal-Mobile-like' technology, may be, sooner than expected, India can say goodbye to drinking water crisis through improved wastewater management as well as desalination.
