France and Saudi Arabia have agreed to develop a €6 billion ($7 billion) manga-themed amusement park near Paris, the Elysee Palace said on Monday during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to the French capital. The project will draw inspiration from the popular Japanese manga and anime franchise Dragon Ball Z.

The theme park will come up near Cergy-Pontoise, northwest of Paris. The development is expected to create around 22,000 jobs. Saudi entertainment and investment group Qiddiya will finance the project as part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond oil and strengthen its presence in the global leisure and entertainment industry.

French President Emmanuel Macron and the Saudi crown prince reportedly came up with the idea after discovering their shared interest in Dragon Ball Z during Macron’s visit to Saudi Arabia in 2025, according to Macron’s advisers.

The planned development will include three different theme parks and is expected to become one of Europe’s largest theme park projects. However, several details about the development are yet to be finalised. Officials have not announced an opening date, while construction is expected to take several years.

The project also comes as Saudi Arabia continues to expand its investments in entertainment and tourism. The kingdom has been developing major leisure projects as part of its broader economic diversification plans.

Bin Salman, who owns a chateau near Paris, is making a rare official visit abroad. He appeared alongside Macron at the closing ceremony of the Esports World Cup in Paris on Sunday.

French officials presented the Dragon Ball Z project as a sign of France’s continued appeal to foreign investors. The development is expected to bring significant investment and employment opportunities while creating a major new entertainment destination near the French capital.
