India Post and Flipkart have signed a major agreement to strengthen last-mile parcel delivery services across the country. The partnership aims to improve the reach and efficiency of e-commerce deliveries by combining India Post’s wide delivery network with Flipkart’s strong online retail presence. The agreement was signed on Friday in New Delhi between the Department of Posts (DoP), which functions under the Ministry of Communications, and Flipkart India Private Limited.
The collaboration is expected to support India’s rapidly growing e-commerce logistics sector by making parcel deliveries smoother across urban, semi-urban and rural regions. Officials from both sides said the partnership would help improve delivery access in remote and underserved areas where logistics services are often limited.
Under the agreement, India Post will provide last-mile delivery services for Flipkart shipments across India. The Ministry of Communications, in an official statement, said, “Under the agreement, the Department of Posts will provide last-mile delivery services for Flipkart shipments across India.”
The agreement was signed by Neeraj Kumar Jha, General Manager, Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, and Harvinder Kapur, Director-Commercial, Flipkart India Private Limited.
Through this partnership, Flipkart will gain access to India Post’s vast network of more than 1.6 lakh post offices spread across the country. This is expected to significantly improve delivery services in far-flung areas where private logistics networks may not have a strong presence. The move is likely to help customers living in smaller towns and villages receive online orders more efficiently.
The services covered under the partnership will include delivery of prepaid as well as cash-on-delivery (COD) parcels. India Post will also provide OTP-based delivery authentication and real-time shipment tracking facilities. These services are aimed at making parcel deliveries more secure, transparent and reliable for customers.
Speaking about the partnership, the Ministry of Communications said, “The partnership aims to leverage the unparalleled reach and trusted delivery network of the Department of Posts along with Flipkart’s strong presence in India’s e-commerce sector to provide efficient, reliable and customer-centric parcel delivery solutions across the country.”
The agreement is expected to strengthen the logistics backbone that supports India’s expanding digital commerce market. With online shopping continuing to grow in both cities and smaller towns, the demand for faster and more dependable delivery systems has also increased. By working together, India Post and Flipkart aim to improve delivery speed and operational efficiency while offering a better customer experience.
The collaboration will also focus on closer coordination and seamless technology integration between the two organisations. Real-time tracking systems and OTP-based verification are expected to make the delivery process more streamlined and customer-friendly. The partnership may also help reduce delivery challenges in remote locations by using India Post’s established infrastructure and local reach.
India Post has one of the largest postal networks in the world and has long played an important role in connecting rural India. Its widespread presence gives it a major advantage in reaching areas where other delivery services face operational difficulties. Flipkart, on the other hand, is among India’s biggest e-commerce companies and serves millions of customers through a wide range of products and digital commerce services.
The partnership reflects the growing importance of collaborations between public infrastructure networks and private e-commerce platforms in India’s logistics sector. With the rise of online shopping across different parts of the country, improving last-mile delivery services has become a key focus for companies and policymakers alike.
