A resident of Reasi in Jammu and Kashmir has been arrested due to suspected ties with terrorists linked to the June 9 bus attack. According to sources from News18, Hakim Din from Bhandarah, Rajouri, has been detained by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on suspicion of providing logistical assistance to the terrorists involved in the incident.
This marks the first arrest related to the attack. The J&K police conducted a press conference in Jammu and the investigation is currently ongoing.
On June 9, nine people, including seven pilgrims from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, lost their lives and 41 others were injured in a tragic incident when terrorists fired upon a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. The 53-seater bus was targeted, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a gorge near Teryath village in Poni.
Last week, the Jammu and Kashmir police had released a sketch of one of the terrorists believed to be involved in the attack. They also announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for any information leading to his capture. The sketch was prepared based on descriptions provided by eyewitnesses to the attack.
On June 17th, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the transfer of the case from the local police to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This decision was made a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held consecutive meetings to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra.
