The temple of Dharmaraja near Gantavur village on the national highway from Palamaner to Chittoor used to serve as a sacred spot for devotees traveling from Karnataka to Tirumala. Approximately 60 years ago, Akkangari Ramakrishnappa from Palamaner town would donate the money he earned from selling flowers to support the people from 26 villages who visited the temple for the 14-day regular Maha Bharat Yajna. The devotees who used to visit this temple are still remembered, as their tombs are established in the surrounding areas of the Dharmaraja temple.
As the temple has fallen into disrepair over time, local Vishwa Hindu Parishad member Siddaiah, an ex-Air Force soldier, along with his friends, is intensifying efforts to redevelop it. A Bhumi Puja was recently performed to initiate the construction of new buildings to accommodate around 500 devotees traveling to Tirumala from Karnataka. The ceremony was reportedly conducted by the family members of Siddaiah's elder sister, who praised the redevelopment as a means to provide comfort for the devotees.
Siddaiah stated that he will work with the same dedication as Akkangari Ramakrishnappa, who donated his daily earnings to the temple 60 years ago. To honour and preserve the nation's history and culture, the temple also hosts bhajans, Kolattam dance, drama, and Mahabharat performances.
In the past, when the temple was frequently visited by many, devotees considered the Yajnas performed here as sacred events. They would accept the offerings distributed and enjoy the natural surroundings, as the temple is located near a forest area. Near the temple, they would dress up and narrate historical stories.
During the 14-day Maha Bharat Yajna held here, these devotees would entertain the visitors and the community. Arrangements are now being made to continue this tradition.
