In an anticipation-filled moment, the Election Commission of India stands ready to unveil the election schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in five states: Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. During its recent press conference, the poll panel made several significant announcements that have garnered widespread attention.
As the nation awaits this crucial announcement the Election Commission of India is set to provide clarity on the timeline and procedures for these state assembly elections. The outcome of these elections will play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape of these states and by extension the country.
Chhattisgarh is scheduled to hold its elections on both November 7 and November 17. On the other hand, Mizoram will conduct its voting on November 7th. Rajasthan's election dates are set for November 23, while Telangana will see polling on November 30. The critical process of vote counting will take place on December 3.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that a total of 1.77 lakh polling stations will be established across 679 assembly constituencies. Within this setup, there will be 17,734 model polling stations, while 621 polling stations will be overseen by PwD (Persons with Disabilities) staff. Additionally, 8,192 polling stations will have women taking charge.
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) confirmed the participation of approximately 60 lakh first-time voters in the upcoming elections across the five states. Additionally, a total of 2,900 polling stations will be overseen by young individuals.
CEC Rajiv Kumar has announced a robust strategy to ensure the integrity of the electoral process in the five states. More than 940 border checkposts are being deployed to curb the illicit movement of cash, alcohol, drugs, and other inducements across state borders.
Kumar emphasized that individuals can easily report instances of inducement through the cVigil platform, facilitating swift action against any violations. Furthermore, he underscored the requirement for any candidate with a criminal background to make this information public by publishing it in newspapers on three separate occasions. This transparency measure aims to inform voters about the background of candidates seeking public office.
