El Salvador President Nayib Bukele lashed out at George Soros for his alleged influence on public policy and laws in the United States. He delivered the comments at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in National Harbor, Maryland, situated south of Washington.
In his address, Bukele questioned, "Who elected (George) Soros to dictate public policy and laws? Why does he feel entitled to impose his agenda?"
Nayib Bukele asserted that George Soros and his associates encountered resistance in El Salvador. Bukele expressed gratitude and attributed the resistance to divine intervention, stating, "Thank God and all glory be to Him, Salvadorans are now immune to Soros's influence."
Elon Musk slammed the far-left Hungarian-American billionaire last October for influencing the appointment of lenient District Attorneys, which worsens crime rates in major US cities. Nayib Bukele, elected in 2019 with 84% of the vote, is praised for significantly reducing crime in El Salvador.
While El Salvadorian President, Nayib Bukele, drew attention with his critical remarks on George Soros this wasn't the first instance of Bukele criticizing the far-left billionaire for his alleged agenda.
When Vice went bankrupt in May last year, Bukele swiftly took aim at George Soros. He tweeted, "It seems like Soros' money also ran out."
In September 2020, Nayib Bukele accused George Soros and the Open Society Foundations (OSF) of engaging in influence peddling in El Salvador. Following Bukele's statement, OSF issued a response.
The El Salvadorian President leveled accusations against several left-wing publications, alleging that they were running a smear campaign against his government, purportedly funded by George Soros.
In 2021, Nayib Bukele criticized the far-left billionaire for allegedly attempting to undermine relations between El Salvador and the United States. He faced scrutiny from journalists purportedly affiliated with the Open Society Foundations, who questioned him about imposing a 40% tax on foreign funding of NGOs.
In 2023, Nayib Bukele addressed the influence of George Soros in the media, stating in a tweet, "In all Latin American countries there are media and 'journalists' paid by Soros. But in reality, they are not journalists; they are political activists with a defined and perverse global agenda."
