After the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, ED issued a summons to Delhi Minister and AAP leader Kailash Gahlot. The summons was in connection with a money-laundering investigation linked to the liquor policy case. Gahlot subsequently appeared before the agency for questioning.
Kailash Gehlot, representing the Aam Aadmi Party, serves as the MLA for Delhi's Najafgarh constituency. Additionally, he holds ministerial portfolios for transport, home, and law within the Delhi government.
According to sources briefed by PTI, Kailash Gahlot has been summoned to appear for questioning in the case and to have his statement recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva responded to the summons, stating, "Another Delhi government Minister has been summoned by the ED now. The truth will be revealed to the public. The corrupt face of (Delhi CM) Arvind Kejriwal and his party is now evident to everyone," he said.
AAP leader Dilip Kumar Pandey accused the BJP government of "dictatorship". "It would be very shocking (for us) if ED doesn't issue any notice. Now, the whole nation is uniting against the dictatorship of the BJP. We have called upon the entire nation to protest against the hooliganism of the BJP and against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal," he stated.
AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Arvind Kejriwal are currently incarcerated on similar charges in the case. Kailash Gahlot, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj remain notable AAP figures who have not faced imprisonment.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, shortly after the Delhi High Court declined to shield him from arrest regarding the excise policy.
The Enforcement Directorate took action against him after he disregarded nine summonses issued by the agency. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been insisting on Arvind Kejriwal's resignation as the Delhi chief minister on moral grounds.
Arvind Kejriwal is in Enforcement Directorate custody until April 1. In court, he claimed a 'smokescreen' of AAP corruption was being created. He questioned the basis for his arrest, citing four witness statements. Kejriwal alleged coercion of case witnesses and denied the existence of the alleged money accepted by AAP.
