The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a series of searches at 25 different locations within the state of Rajasthan. These searches are a part of the ongoing money laundering investigation related to the execution of the 'Jal Jeevan Mission,' a crucial government initiative, in the state, which is currently preparing for elections.
The ED's actions come with efforts to probe potential financial irregularities and money laundering associated with the implementation of the 'Jal Jeevan Mission.' This mission aims to provide a sustainable and safe drinking water supply to rural households in various regions of the country, including Rajasthan.
Raids are currently underway in Congress-ruled states, specifically in Jaipur and Dausa. These operations involve searches at various locations, particularly at the premises of Subodh Agarwal, who serves as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Public Health Engineering Department.
According to sources, authorities are conducting investigations into additional individuals associated with the case, and they are doing so under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Ongoing investigations have expanded to encompass the properties of engineers, contractors, and former state government officials, who are suspected of having potential ties to the current case. These searches are being conducted within the framework of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
On September 1, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated similar search operations in multiple cities within the state of Rajasthan. This move stems from an initial First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Rajasthan Police, indicating the gravity of the situation.
In June this year, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena was accused of a significant financial irregularity of Rs 20,000 crore in the execution of the Central government's 'Jal Jeevan Mission' in Rajasthan. This allegation seems to have led to a closer look by authorities and a series of investigations.
Earlier, he accused two companies of receiving tenders worth Rs 900 crore for 48 projects under the 'Jal Jeevan Mission' scheme based on fraudulent experience certificates.
The 'Jal Jeevan Mission' seeks to provide safe drinking water through household tap connections and is administered by the Rajasthan Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
In a separate development last month, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the residences of the state's Congress president, Govind Singh Dotasara, in Jaipur and Sikar. Additionally, Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of the state's Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, was summoned for questioning in a case related to the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
The timing, objectives, and intent of these actions by the Central government were criticized by the ruling Congress, prompting questions and concerns. The elections for the entire 200 seats in the Rajasthan Assembly are scheduled for November 25, with the vote count set for December 3.
