The Election Commission of India on Friday condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his voter fraud presentation during the INDIA bloc meeting, calling it an "absurd analysis". The poll body also urged him to submit a formal complaint in writing or "apologise to the nation" for spreading "misleading interpretations".
"If Rahul Gandhi is convinced of his analysis and is convinced that the allegations made by him against the Election Commission of India are true, then he should have no hesitation in signing the declaration. If he fails to sign the declaration, it would imply that he does not believe his analysis and the conclusions arising out of it and outrageous allegations. In this case, he should apologise to the nation. He has two choices," the poll body sources added.
Rahul Gandhi, who had been alleging voter fraud, made firm accusations during the dinner meeting of the INDIA bloc on Thursday night. The meeting had been convened to discuss the Special Intensive Revision or SIR in Bihar, the Vice-Presidential elections, and other matters. Gandhi alleged that a major case of voter fraud had been uncovered in a Karnataka Assembly constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
He claimed that a Karnataka survey had revealed six major irregularities: the same voter listed multiple times on the rolls, the same voter registered in different states, non-existent addresses, numerous voters registered at a single address, unclear photographs on voter IDs, and misuse of Form 6 for first-time voters.
Gandhi also accused the Election Commission of preparing a "choreographed schedule" for the Karnataka assembly elections in coordination with the BJP and alleged that the Commission had refused to provide digital voter rolls.
The BJP also criticised Gandhi and questioned why he was unwilling to submit the declaration containing the list of ineligible voters he claimed were registered in Karnataka. "If he does not do this, then it will be as clear as day that he has no genuine case and was playing political drama, simply to mislead people, create doubts in minds, and discredit the image of a constitutional body responsible for free and fair elections," BJP media cell chief Amit Malviya stated.
