Election Commission officials lodged a complaint on Tuesday against Yathindra, the son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, at Hanur police station in Chamarajanagara district for using "abusive words" directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
On April 1, the complaint was filed by Gundu Rao, a sector officer of the Election Office's flying squad wing. The complaint urged for suitable measures to be taken against Yathindra for his disrespectful speech, as stated by Hanur Police Inspector Shashi Kumar.
As per the complaint, Yathindra made offensive comments about Amit Shah, thus breaching the model code of conduct (MCC). In a recent political altercation, the Congress leader referred to Shah as a 'goonda' (hooligan) and 'rowdy,' suggesting that Modi has connections with such individuals.
During a Congress event in Chamarajanagara district on March 28, Yathindra remarked that Shah is facing murder charges in Gujarat and has a history of involvement in criminal activities. "But now,” he said, “he is in a high position in the country." On March 29, the BJP lodged a complaint with the EC against Yathindra.
After the EC’s complaint, Yathindra said, “I quoted whatever charges were already put on him (Amit Shah) earlier. I did not exaggerate. I gave an appropriate response to the election commission.” Defending him, Mysuru district Congress committee president R Murthy said that “The comments made by Yatindra are not new as his comments were based on previous police records.”
Reacting to the charges, BJP district unit president CS Niranjana Kumar said, “His comments were a personal attack against a union minister. The court had already exonerated Shah from all the cases then how can one can call him a goonda?”
State BJP President B Y Vijayendra condemned the alleged remarks and said that it is not right on his part as a former legislator and son of the chief minister to make such statements, and demanded his apology.
