External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar signed eight key documents that showcase India's contributions during the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday.
On the final day of the summit, EAM S Jaishankar shared eight important insights from the Indian viewpoint regarding the "positive and constructive contribution to the deliberations" on social media platform X. One Earth, One Family, One Future was the theme of the conversation that the EAM developed during the meeting. It also presented the results of India's initiatives, which were supported by member states and included the SCO Startup Forum, the Special Working Group on Startups and Innovation, and Traditional Medicine.
He brought up the SCO cooperation framework's inclusion of digital inclusion and digital public infrastructure (DPI). In order to further the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), the meeting also centred on taking inspiration from Mission LiFE, a global mass movement spearheaded by India that takes action to preserve and protect the environment.
"Developing a dialogue on the idea of One Earth, One Family, One Future. Outcomes of India initiatives like SCO Startup Forum, SWG on Startups and Innovation and Traditional Medicine welcomed by SCO members. DPI & Digital inclusion becoming part of SCO cooperation framework. SCO taking inspiration from Mission LiFE to achieving UNSDGs," Jaishankar remarked.
The EAM also highlighted initiatives to improve nutrition and food security worldwide, especially by promoting nutrient-dense and climate-resilient grains like millet. Additionally, Jaishankar reiterated the necessity of equitable and well-rounded connectivity initiatives that adhere to international law and support the objectives of the SCO and UN charters.
Along with highlighting the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as a fundamental component of a rules-based, non-discriminatory, and open multilateral trading system, he also emphasised India's commitment to opposing protectionist measures, unilateral sanctions, and trade restrictions that could have an adverse effect on global sustainable development.
"Enhancing global food security and nutrition through promoting the use of climate-resilient and nutritious grains such as millet. Upholding fair and balanced connectivity projects in accordance with international law, the goals and principles of the UN Charter and SCO Charter. Reemphasising rules-based, non-discriminatory, open, fair, inclusive and transparent multilateral trading system with WTO at its core. Opposing protectionist actions, unilateral sanctions, and trade restrictions that undermine the multilateral trading system and impede global sustainable development," added he.
In addition, Jaishanakar wished Russia well as it got ready to take over as president of the SCO Council of Heads of Government.
