The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) launched the Sanchar Saathi mobile app on Friday to make it easier for users to report suspected fraudulent communications. The app allows users to quickly flag these incidents directly from their call logs, improving security and making it more convenient for mobile subscribers.
The Sanchar Saathi portal, which was introduced in May 2023, has proven crucial in preventing fraudulent calls and improving mobile security. Building on this base, the new mobile app gives users a safe platform to control and protect their mobile connections. The Sanchar Saathi portal has two important features such as CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register), this feature helps to block or track lost phones and TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection) which helps manage mobile connections and detect any unauthorised use.
Users can check how many mobile connections are registered under their name, disconnect any that are unnecessary, verify the authenticity of their devices, and report any unauthorised connections. Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, shared the department's plan for National Broadband Mission 2.0, which focuses on expanding broadband internet across India. The plan also includes providing intra-circle roaming at 4G sites funded by the ‘Digital Bharat Nidhi.’ This initiative will improve mobile network access in remote areas.
During the app launch, the Union Minister highlighted the efforts taken to create a safe environment that protects the privacy and security of every user. It is anticipated that the Sanchar Saathi app will support government initiatives to build a safer digital environment for Indian mobile users.
