The Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that DMK MP A Raja made derogatory remarks about Bhagwan Ram and questioned the concept of India during a recent speech characterized as a "hate speech.
BJP leader Amit Malviya shared the purported speech on X, claiming that the controversial MP advocated for the "balkanisation of India." This controversy emerged shortly after the Supreme Court made significant remarks against DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding his contentious remarks concerning 'Sanatan Dharma.'
He wrote on X, "Hate speeches from DMK’s stable continue unabated. After Udhayanidhi Stalin’s call to annihilate Sanatan Dharma, it is now A Raja who calls for balkanisation of India, derides Bhagwan Ram, makes disparaging comments on Manipuris and questions the idea of India, as a nation."
Amit Malviya uploaded the video of the speech in Tamil and also provided the English translation of the purported remarks.
According to Amit Malviya's translation, A Raja stated, "India is not a nation. Understand this well. India is never a nation. One nation means one language, one tradition, and one culture. Then only it is one nation. India is not a nation but a subcontinent. What’s the reason? Here, Tamil is one nation and one country. Malayalam is one language, one nation, and one country. Oriya is a nation, a language, and a country. All these nations make up India. So, India is not a country, it is a subcontinent. There are so many traditions and cultures. If you come to Tamil Nadu, there’s a culture. In Kerala, there’s another culture. In Delhi, there’s another culture. In Oriya, there’s another culture. Why in Manipur, as RS Bharathi said, they eat dog meat. Yes, it is true, they eat. That’s a culture. There’s nothing wrong. It’s all in our mind."
According to Amit Malviya, A Raja stated, "We are enemies of Ram." He expressed that Tamil Nadu would not accept the slogans of "Jai Sri Ram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai." Raja further expressed his lack of faith in the Ramayana and Bhagwan Ram, criticising the narrative of human harmony presented in the epic.
He referred to the chant of "Jai Sri Ram" as derogatory and criticised the belief that the Ramayana promotes inclusivity, questioning the portrayal of characters such as monkeys and hunters as siblings in the epic.
Ramesh Das, the chief priest of Ayodhya's Hanuman Garhi temple, strongly condemned A Raja's purported speech. He expressed disapproval of the remarks made by the DMK leader, stating, "Whatever the DMK leader said is condemnable. The entire world is 'Ram may'." Das announced plans to write to both the Prime Minister and the President regarding this matter.
Union minister Anurag Thakur accused the DMK leader of being associated with the 'tukde-tukde' gang, alleging their support for divisive actions and slogans such as 'Pakistan Zindabad.' He criticized the party's stance on Indian culture and questioned their alliances and motivations behind such actions.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the INDIA bloc and Congress for allegedly insulting India's ethos and Hindu gods. He questioned Congress's acceptance of such comments, considering their alliance with DMK in Tamil Nadu. TN BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathi called for A Raja's arrest.
