Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda has expressed serious concern over the growing disturbances in Parliament, highlighting what he described as an unusual rise in disorderly conduct in recent times. In a letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi, the veteran leader pointed out that the situation inside and around Parliament has become increasingly chaotic, largely due to the actions of opposition parties, particularly members of the Congress.

In his communication, Deve Gowda conveyed that he has been deeply troubled by the kind of disruptions being witnessed. He suggested that these interruptions are not spontaneous but are being deliberately created, mainly by opposition leaders. According to him, Congress parliamentarians, under the guidance of the Leader of Opposition, have been responsible for triggering frequent disturbances both within the House and in its surroundings. He highlighted that such actions are affecting the dignity and functioning of Parliament.

The former Prime Minister further noted that the scale of these disruptions is unlike anything seen before. He described the current atmosphere as unprecedented, stressing that the frequency and intensity of interruptions have increased significantly. Deve Gowda expressed concern that such behaviour is setting a worrying trend and undermining the seriousness of parliamentary proceedings.

Elaborating on the nature of these disruptions, he pointed out that Parliament sessions have recently been marked by excessive slogan shouting, the use of placards, and instances of personal remarks being exchanged. He indicated that these actions reflect a lack of seriousness among lawmakers and are against the very principles on which parliamentary democracy is built. For him, Parliament is a place for meaningful discussion and decision-making, and such disruptions weaken its purpose.

Deve Gowda also shared his disappointment over what he perceives as a decline in the standard of political conduct.
